Learn to Sail
For 2024-25 summer season we are unable to use our Lindisfarne site. Bellerive Yacht Club has taken us under its wing, and BYC will be the organising authority for all our sailing this season. They have just installed an excellent pontoon at Bellerive on which we can store and launch our dinghies.
All our learn to sail activities are in sailing dinghies, not larger keelboats, which means participants must be able to swim. Check out the detailed courses below.
Kids Learn to Sail
This course will be starting on 10th November 2024 and will run for 10 weeks on Sunday mornings mornings at Bellerive Yacht Club. The final session will be on 9th February 2025, noting there will be some gaps due to holidays.
We will be using our fleet of 10 Opti sailing dinghies which are perfect for kids to be introduced to sailing. The course is aimed at Primary School aged children in grades 3 to 6. If you are water confident, can swim and enjoy a bit of adventure then this may be your perfect activity! Participants will be two to a boat and a PFD (personal flotation device) is provided for all participants.
BYC and LSC are Australian Sailing affiliated clubs and cost for the course covers membership for the duration of the course. Whilst on the water, Australian Sailing provides personal injury insurance for participants.
Total cost for the 10 week course starting 10th November:
$280 for one child
$420 for 2 or more children from same family
A 50% concession for low-income families (health care card holder).
